Acetone Vapour Smoothing

Smoothing 3D prints using acetone for a clean finish

3DPrinting acetone ABS ASA printed

How do you get your 3D prints to look like a finished product without intensive sanding and painting? Acetone.

Start by printing in ASA or ABS, these plastics have a high melting temperature, typically around 250 - 280 degrees Celsius. It’s crucial to use these filaments as acetone has little abrasive effects on other filaments such as PLA and TPU. By elevating the print in an enclosed chamber containing a small amount of acetone the effects can be seen. After 15-25 minuets (depending on the size of the print and the amount of acetone surface area exposed)the layer lines on your print should being to fade and gloss over.

Congratulations you have a product quality finish all for around $10.
